Rez Week – Matt Chandler

For the next four days, Matt Chandler, the lead pastor of The Village Church in Dallas, Texas will be speaking at an event on the UT campus. It is called Rez Week (short for “Resurrection Week”) which is a large-scale event coordinated by a handful of ministries in Austin trying to reach the campus with the Gospel. Throughout the day, $1 lunches and drinks will be served in front of Gregory Gym (one of the busiest areas on campus), a prayer tent will be set up, and there will be a “free speech board” where a question prompt will be placed (like “What do you think of Heaven and Hell?”) and students or faculty can write their answers or talk to volunteers for the event who will be nearby. Every evening, a worship band from one of the ministries will lead us in song and then Matt Chandler will give a sermon.

The turnout is always massive as students passing by are curious and intrigued by what is happening. The speakers have always been great in the past, but Chandler is on a completely different level than the rest. Be in prayer for him this week that the Lord would speak through him with power and also that he would find health and energy over the next few days. For those of you who do not know, he had a seizure on Thanksgiving day and was taken to the hospital where they found a cancerous tumor on the frontal lobe of his brain. Since then, he has had surgery and is undergoing chemotherapy in order to remove the remaining cancer. So be in prayer that God would sustain him.

Pray also that hearts would be stirred throughout the week. There will be many students present who probably do not yet know the Lord. Be in prayer that the Holy Spirit would pierce their hearts with the Truth of God’s Word and the understanding that they are in desperate need of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
