Favorite Albums of 2010

So I did a post like this last year because I love my tunes and I wanted to plug what I liked this year. It won’t be nearly as informative, but at least you’ll know what I liked – something I know you’re all madly curious about. Here are my top 5:

Sigh No More by Mumford and Sons

If you listen to this album and don’t like at least some aspect of it, I don’t know what’s wrong with you. Seriously. It’s easy on the ears, but lyrically convicting to the heart. The words that are strung together with some British folky bluegrass creates a hybrid form of musical genius. It’s a bit different from most things I listen to, but I love this album dearly.

In All Our Graceful Words by Sent By Ravens

This is one of the best debut albums I’ve ever heard. Another win for Tooth and Nail Records. It’s a good straight up alternative rock band with songs that are driven by melody, but with a mix of screaming here and there for good measure.

Disambiguation by UnderOATH

If I’m honest, I was seriously worried about the quality of this album before its release. When long-time drummer and vocalist Aaron Gillespie dropped out of the band, I thought it was over for these guys. But they proved me wrong and Disambiguation is ridiculously good.

Horseshoes and Hand Grenades by Disciple

This was a hard one to put at number four because it really is so good all the way through. Lyrically, it’s beautiful and musically it all blends perfectly. But something about it just doesn’t quite measure up to the three I’ve already mentioned. I can’t put my finger on it, but this record is still sweet.

The World is a Thorn by Demon Hunter

This was really more of a mediocre record for this band, but it was kind of a mediocre year in terms of releases if you ask me. They have changed around a few members in the band which has also changed the staple sound of Demon Hunter to a certain extent. But all around, it’s a pretty good album.

Biggest Disappointment

Feeding The Wolves by 10 Years

There always seems to be at least one letdown for me every year and this definitely tops my list for 2010. Huge disappointment for me. I think I listened through the whole thing a handful of times and now it’s collecting dust on my shelf as well as my iPod. Pixel dust or something like that…? I don’t know. But don’t waste your time on this album.
